During the last one week, ten persons, including a 12-year-old boy, committed suicide in Bhopal, sending shock waves among the residents in the state capital.
On Saturday, two cases of suicide were reported, while three people ended their life on Thursday. Of ten who took the extreme step, seven were women. The reasons for taking the extreme step ranged from depression, family tension, getting scolded by parents to inability to deal with the stresses of life.
Saturday: Naresh Raikwar, 30, committed suicide at Shiv Nagar under the TT Nagar police limits by hanging himself. Though exact reasons are not clear, sources said the deceased took the extreme step because of some family tension.
Auto-rickshaw driver by profession, he didn’t leave any suicide note. However, sources said the deceased was an alcoholic and used to return home inebriated regularly, increasing domestic strife. A 16-year-old girl, Mahima Simon, committed suicide on Friday night at her residence at Shyam Nagar by hanging herself. Habibganj police said the exact reasons couldn’t be ascertained yet as no suicide note was recovered.
Friday: Engineering student Deepankar Kulkarni, 19, who hailed from Betul district, committed suicide in Ashoka Garden area on Thursday night by consuming poison. He, however, died on Friday morning. No suicide note was recovered from his rented accommodation. Reportedly, he was in depression after he was diagnosed with tuberculosis sometime back.
Pinky, a 20-year-old married woman, who had committed suicide in Anand Nagar area under Piplani police station after consuming poison on Wednesday, died on Friday morning.
Thursday: Three people committed suicide in the city. In a shocking incident in Ashoka Garden area, Nandlal Kushwaha’s 12-year old-son, Deepak, committed suicide by hanging himself. Police recovered a suicide note in which he had blamed his elder brother, for getting him scolded by his parents.
Aarti, 24, committed suicide at her home in Kailash Nagar. After marriage in May, she was suffering from tension and was taking psychiatric help.
Again, on Thursday morning, 19-year-old dental student Jayshree Vishwakarma committed suicide by hanging herself.
Tuesday: Swati, a 27-year-old MBA student committed suicide in Rachna Nagar at her rented accommodation after returning from temple. She worked in a private company and was pursuing MBA. In her suicide note, she said she stated that she was fed up with her life.
Monday: Two students committed suicide in the city. Shashi Ahirwar, 16, from Shankar Nagar slums committed suicide by setting herself on fire in Nishatpura area. A Class 10 student, she was studying in a private school. Her parents worked as labourers. No suicide note was recovered. She was reportedly in depression because some prolonged illness.
On the same day, 29-year-old Rachna Patel, who was studying journalism at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism, hanged herself at her residence.
A suicide note was recovered from her room in which she had written that failed to secure a good job, while most of her friends had landed good jobs.
