In another example of laxity on the part of police to arrest influential officials absconding following a crime, special police establishment (SPE), Lokayukta, 40 days after a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against dismissed IAS officers Arvind Joshi and Tinoo Joshi in connection with disproportionate assets case, is yet to verify whether the couple had fled from India.
Lokayukta IG Ashok Awasthi said, "We have served notice on airport authorities and if they had tried to flee from India, they would have been caught. As Joshi couple are government official, they need no objection certificate. They can't get visa. The couple can leave for foreign countries through proper channel."
He also dismissed the speculations that the couple might have left the country much before warrant was issued against them as all airports were subsequently when they were not found at home, after the warrant was sought to be served on them.
"We would launch a hunt to search the couple and we are quite sure that they would be caught soon. We would also verify with the help of passport office that they were in India," said DSP Vinod Sharma, making it clear that the SPE sleuths have not cared to find out from immigration wing whether Joshis have used their passports to leave the country.
