In a programme organised by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation to mark the Swachhata Diwas, Chouhan said cleanliness should be made a mentality.
He flagged off eight sanitation rath (chariots) and two CND waste vehicles. He also laid the foundation stone for 45 public toilets and 50 community toilets on Sunday.
“Like Indore and Harda, Bhopal should be made free from open defecation soon. A drive should be launched in this regard. There should be competitions among residential societies. Additional fund for development will be given to the cleanest ward from the Chief Minister Infrastructure Fund,” Chouhan said.
Mayor Alok Sharma said 18 wards in Bhopal had been made free from open defecation. “She-lounges will be constructed in other markets also. Best wards and premises will be awarded for cleanliness,” he said.
A total of Rs 21 lakh will be given as first prize, Rs 11 lakh as second and Rs 5 lakh for the third prize.
Chouhan awarded two organizations — I Clean and Sakaratmak Soch Sangthan — for contributing in the cleanliness programme.
