The accused was caught after SPE sleuths laid a trap based on the complaint of one Vijay Shrivastava, a resident of Govindpura. Shrivastava had alleged in a written complaint that TI Subodh Singh was demanding a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh for not registering a case against him in an ongoing dispute related to a piece of land in Govindpura.

SPE sleuths said Shrivastava alleged that one Madan Balani, who also lives in Govindpura, had lodged a complaint at Piplani police station, accusing him of forcibly occupying the piece of land of Balani. Following this, ASI called both parties and later conveyed to Shrivastava that if he didn’t pay Rs 2.5 lakh, a case would be registered against him.

Shrivastava approached Lokayukta with a written complaint that ASI Piplani was threatening him and demanding a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh.

Lokayukta laid a trap and told Shrivastava to agree for paying Rs 1 lakh as first installment. After the trap was laid and the ASI was caught, a case was registered under sections 7,12, 13-1 (D) and 12-2 of Prevention of Corruption Act against TI of Piplani police station, Subodh Singh, ASI Bharat Singh and Devendra Singh Rajput. The SPE sleuths have arrested Rajput and Bharat Singh, while the TI is on the run.

Devendra Singh Rajput, who runs a Sanchi milk parlour, was made accused as he took money from Shrivastava on behest of the ASI.
