A 50-year-old man raped his 13-year-old niece in Damoh district on Sunday, police said on Monday.

A 50-year-old man raped his 13-year-old niece in Damoh district on Sunday, said police on Monday.

According to the police, the girl has sustained injuries in her private parts and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jabalpur town.

Police said the girl had gone to fetch water from a well near her house on Sunday evening and her uncle caught her and took her to a hidden place, after which he allegedly raped her.

The girl told police that the accused had threatened her of dire consequences in case she revealed the incident to anyone.

The victim's condition is stable now. The police have detained the accused and have started investigation.
