Many, including an additional SP and a sub-divisional officer of police, were injured in the stone pelting and over a dozen houses were burnt and vehicles set on fire.

The police used tear gas and fired in the air but when the mob couldn’t be controlled, curfew was clamped. IG Hoshangabad Range, Ajay Sharma, said, “The situation is under control now.”

The trouble began after a cow was reportedly hit by an adivasi, following which it died in an agriculture field owned by a Muslim.
