There have been no reports of any loss of life or property from the state, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said at a press conference on Saturday.

However, there were some reports of minor damages like cracks in the walls of houses in villages of Sagar, Chhatarpur and Panna districts.

The tremors were also felt in many areas in Bhopal including the Vallabh Bhavan (secretariat) where the chief minister was attending a meeting.

Chouhan and other officials rushed out of the building after feeling the tremors. The chief minister asked officials to sound an alarm so that the employees and officials could come out of the building. "For the first time, my chair shook," Chouhan jocularly said outside the building.

Later, the chief minister took a review meeting to assess the impact of the earthquake in the state. "I also spoke to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi later to discuss the matter," Chouhan said.

Though the impact of the earthquake was felt only for a few seconds in the state, people in Gwalior, Shivpuri, Morena, Panna, Rewa, Sagar, Jabalpur, Chhatatpur, Damoh, Dindori, Mandla, Shahdol, Hoshangabad and many other areas panicked and rushed out of their houses and work places.

Director of RMC Anupam Kashyapi confirmed that the tremors were the result of the earthquake that occurred in Nepal just before noon.

The epicentre of the quake was 10km below the ground level, he said and added that the magnitude of the earthquake was strong enough to send tremors as far as MP.

Mild tremors were felt in Indore which lasted for around four to five seconds.

There were no reports of loss of life or property from the city. Those in the higher floors of multistoried buildings felt the tremors and rushed out of the buildings.

At the Corporate House, a building on RNT Marg, employees working in various offices left the building following the tremors. Same was the story narrated by people who have offices in neighbouring buildings like Chetak Centre and Chetak Chamber.

Tremors were also felt in the Sarafa area where most of the buildings are over 100 years old.
