Separate cell for RTE to come up in child rights panel
Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Chaturvedi has said that children have constitutional right to free and compulsory education (RTE). The commission will play the role of an alert sentinel regarding implementation of these rights.
She added that a separate cell would be constituted in the commission to monitor implementation of the RTE Act. Chaturvedi was addressing a one-day workshop of Children’s Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act on Saturday.
She said the commission was responsible for monitoring of implementation of this Act and suggestions would be invited from experts regarding hurdles in the implementation.
Principal secretary of women and child development, BR Naidu said such workshops should be held at division and district-level also.
Commissioner tribal development Ashish Upadhyay said the effective implementation of the act would create an atmosphere of fearlessness towards education among children.
Commissioner of Rajya Shiksha Kendra Rashmi Arun Shami gave details about implementation of the act in the state. She informed that almost all schools in the state have buildings of their own. Problems of drinking water and toilets will be removed in next six months.
Advisor to Rajhya Shiksha Kendra LS Baghel also spoke. Manager of UNICEF state office Piyush Mathur, members of SCPCR Vibhanshu Joshi, Reeta Upmanyu and Vijaya Shukla also expressed their views.
