The minor, who was allegedly set afire by her husband and in-laws in Begumganj town of Raisen district on Sunday, died during treatment at Kamla Nehru Hospital on Tuesday morning. Ruba Khan, 16, had suffered 90% burn injuries.
Father of the victim Lallu Khan has lodged a complaint at Begumganj police station, alleging Ruba’s husband and in-laws of setting her afire over the demand of dowry.
In his complaint, Khan has claimed that his daughter was being harassed by in-laws and husband since the very first day of her marriage over dowry.
"The girls’ father has lodged a complaint against in-laws and her husband. We are investigation the matter and further action would be taken soon," said Begumganj town inspector Arvind Raghuvansi.
Ruba’s parents have also given an audio recording to police in which Ruba had narrated her ordeal during the treatment at the hospital. In the audio recording, which her parents handed over to police, she claims that her sister-in-law Gudia and husband Zuber Khan set her ablaze.
Ruba, a class 10 student, had eloped with Zuber Khan, a resident of same town. Her parents were against the relationship, though both belonged to the same community.
