Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar breaks even, earns Rs 31.1 crore in four days at box office

Despite a smaller screen share compared to Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal Again, Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar has made Rs 31.1 crore in four days. The film was made at an estimated budget of Rs 15 crore.

Aamir Khan-Zaira Wasim-starrer Secret Superstar, that hit theatres on Diwali this year, has earned Rs 31.1 crore within four days of release.Makers of the film have claimed Secret Superstar has recovered production and publicity costs and earned Rs 31.1 crore in the first extended weekend.

After a slow start on Thursday with Rs 4.8 crore as the opening collection, Secret Superstar saw a major jump in the earnings on Friday when it collected a total of Rs 9.3 crore. The film got a smaller screen share as compared to Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal Again that also released this Diwali. Golmaal Again has earned over Rs 87.60 crore since its release.

Reacting to the reception that his debut film has received, Secret Superstar director Advait Chandan said in a press statement, “I went to a theatre full of people and they clapped and laughed and were moved by the film. It gave me goosebumps - this has been such a dream response!! I keep pinching myself to check if it’s real.”

Secret Superstar is about a teenaged girl named Insiya, played by Zaira Wasim, who sets out to follow her dream of being a singing superstar while staying anonymous.The film also showcases Aamir Khan in a quirky avatar as Shakti Kumaarr, a music composer.

Produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao under the banner name of Aamir Khan Productions, Zee Studios and Akash Chawla, Secret Superstar is written and directed by Advait Chandan.

Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again, which hit theatres a day after Secret Superstar, has earned Rs 87.60 crore over the first weekend. While Golmaal Again was released in approximately 3500 screens, Secret Superstar was released across 1800 screens in India.

Golmaal Again stars Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Tabu, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor in lead roles.
