Singer-actor Monica Dogra, 28, might have impressed audiences with Aamir Khan’s Dhobi Ghat but she is yet to sign her next in Bollywood. Having toured over 20 countries with her band Shaa’ir + Func (S+F), she is constantly creating new music. We caught up with the singer-actor during her recent visit to the Capital on her association with Aamir, her new ad with actor Imran Khan, movies, music and more.
I’m a poet first and then a musician. I have a tendency to write really emotionally heavy lyrics and I get carried away with it. I try to do what I do best musically.

Usually what we do is wait for a year doing live shows, gathering up stories, inspirations and sound, let it mature and then see if it fits, and weave it around in a new album.
Aamir is too busy to give me tips on anything. I’m not in touch with him, Kiran or anyone that much. We’ve met just a couple of times and that’s about it.
Ad with Imran (Khan) was just a chance. Aamir has nothing to do with it. It’s my first ad and I’ve also sung in it. However, Imran’s really cool. We have common friends.
As far as films go, I haven’t signed anything else (post Dhobi Ghat). But I’m open. I’m reading scripts but so far nothing really has set in and impressed me.
