Shifting release dates to avoid a clash with Padman and Padmaavat hasn’t really helped Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary at the box office.

They shifted the release of their film twice to avoid a clash but it seems Akshay Kumar’s PadMan and Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh-starrer Padmaavat is still something of a competition for Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary at the box office. After getting a dismal opening at the box office (Rs 3.36 crore), Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary saw an upward trend on Saturday. Starring Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra in lead roles, the film earned Rs 4.04 crore on the second day of its release, bringing the total to mere Rs 7.40 crore. PadMan, on the other hand, collected Rs 3.15 crore on the eighth day of its release.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures Sunday afternoon: “#Aiyaary witnessed an upward trend on Sat, but the 2-day total is underwhelming... Biz is better in metros... Fri 3.36 cr, Sat 4.04 cr. Total: ₹ 7.40 cr. India biz.”

Aiyaary, an espionage thriller, that also stars Anupam Kher, Rakul Preet Singh, Naseeruddin Shah and Kumud Mishra in important roles, opened to scathing reviews on February 16.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s PadMan continued a slow but steady run at the ticket windows, collecting Rs 3.15 crore on Saturday. The film, that also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in lead roles, has earned Rs 68.12 crore in eight days.

According to a boxofficeindia report, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, too, collected Rs 2.75 crore on Saturday - on the 24th day of the release. The film, that is now being screened across several theatres in Madhya Pradesh, is earning more than PadMan in the state, the report added. The film has already collected Rs 269.50 crore as it entered the fourth week of its release.

Padmaavat, after the plethora of controversies it faced, has emerged as a blockbuster.
