Actor Ajay Devgn has been signed on for an Indo-French film, in which he will be playing king Ashoka. Our sources say that the production house is also trying to get a Hollywood name to play the female lead.
“While Ajay will be playing the king, the makers are trying to rope in a big name from Hollywood for the female lead to make the project truly international. One of the names they’ve shortlisted is Jennifer Lopez because she can pull off an Indian queen role, as her features are quite Indian,” says the source.

However, the makers don’t want to talk about the female lead just yet. “We haven’t finalised anyone yet, and it’s not proper for us to talk about it. What I can tell you is that Ajay will play Ashoka, the great king. And director Rajkumar Santoshi will helm the project,” says Manuel Collas De La Roche, a French film producer, who’s a regular at the Cannes film festival.
Talking about his interest in Indian films, Manuel, who gave up his Buddhist monkhood in 2005, says, “I am a Buddhist you see, and I come to India often on a spiritual quest. My astrologer, Nitin Manchanda, suggested I make a film and I liked the idea. Rajkumar (Santoshi) is a fabulous person and director, so we are working together. I have other films in the pipeline too. ”
Director Rajkumar Santoshi confirms the news, saying, “Yes, that’s happening, but there are other films before it that I am working on.”
