Akshay Kumar: My son Aarav thinks I know nothing

Akshay Kumar may be a big advocate of the martial arts, even starting a dedicated school to train people, but his son Aarav thinks 'he knows nothing' about martial arts. The actor on how his entire family is interested in combat sport -- wife Twinkle has a yellow belt while son Aarav is training in karate.

Akshay Kumar earned his stripes as a martial artist much before he became Bollywood's favourite Khiladi. After almost two decades, he is the film industry's most dependable action star and will be seen doing his own stunts in the upcoming Singh is Bliing. But, he isn’t the only one in his family who has a love for combat sport. “My wife has a yellow belt in martial arts,” says the actor, about Twinkle Khanna aka Mrs Funnybones.

In fact, their son, Aarav Bhatia, who will soon turn 13, is good at karate too. “Aarav has an interest in the combat sport, and he is pretty good at it too,” says

, about his son, who won a gold medal at the All India Kudo national championship in May this year.

if his son takes tips from him, and the actor says, “No, he doesn’t. He trains under a coach. Aarav thinks I know nothing (laughs).”

Akshay feels that it is important for everyone to learn some form of self-defence. “Everyone, especially women, should know some form of self-defence. When I read about the rape cases and violence against women, I get really upset,” says the Bollywood actor, who helps run self-defence classes in Mumbai, where girls are trained in the martial arts.

He adds, “I thought if these women knew how to protect themselves, they would have probably escaped unharmed. Just the fact that you know martial arts can give you so much confidence to fight.”
