Actors Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan have worked in several films together in the past and have been a hit pair too, particularly in multi-starrers. Now, in a new interview, the Khiladi actor has opened up about a hilarious situation he found himself in while promoting their film, Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), many years ago. Speaking to Rajeev Masand, the actor revealed that he loves working with Saif and how he once made a big goof up at the Delhi premiere of Main Khiladi Tu Anari.
He said: “I love working with Saif. Our partnership always reminds me of Laurel and Hardy. I am playing Hardy and he’s Laurel. If you remember Laurel and Hardy, they had some great chemistry.”
“I also have a very good memory about when we had gone for the premiere... it is very funny what happened that day. Rageshwari, Shilpa, me, Saif... We had gone to Delhi. Now suddenly on stage, this guy comes and says: ‘Ab Akshayji, aap ko AIDS ke baare mein kuch kehna hai’. I didn’t know the whole premiere was for charity for AIDS. Mr Ratan Jain (the producer of the film) didn’t tell us; he forgot. Because I am the senior, they have called me first. Saif is looking at me and he’s laughing, he knows I am nervous, he knows I don’t know what to say suddenly. And guess what I must have said; I can never forget what I said. I had no idea what to say and I just went and I said: ‘Doston, anari mat bano, condom istemal karo aur khiladi bano’.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay will soon get busy promoting his next film, Kesari, which is a Dharma Production. The film, which releases on March 21 (Holi), is the story of the valour and sacrifice of 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army who took on 10,000 Afghan fighters in the Battle of Saragarhi.
Always the happiest when I'm in action and #Kesari kept me more than active! Watch the making here - https://t.co/3Qbq6jGIRo@ParineetiChopra @SinghAnurag79 @karanjohar @apoorvamehta18 @SunirKheterpal @DharmaMovies #CapeOfGoodFilms @iAmAzure @ZeeStudios_— Akshay Kumar (@akshaykumar) March 12, 2019
On Monday, Akshay shared a making of Kesari video in which he detailed the gruelling process. In the video, he says, “I had the best time doing action for Kesari because they were raw. The very premise of the film is something that swells my chest with pride. There are two major action sequences the film has. Spiti was a beautiful place but it had it own challenges -- high altitude and low oxygen. The action choreography was quite difficult. Also, to recreate a battle that took place in 1897, we had to learn the traditional battle style then.”
