Akshay Kumar and wife Twinkle Khanna are not just the coolest couple in Bollywood, they are the wittiest too. To be fair, a large share of the wit comes from Mrs Funnybones aka Twinkle but Akshay comes up with a gem once in a while which has the fans guffawing. As the actor started promoting Gold on Friday, he sat down with Rajeev Masand for an interview.
Among the plethora of questions Akshay fielded was the one about Twinkle’s upcoming book, Pyjamas Are Forgiving, and whether she will be up for producer’s duties again. Twinkle turned a producer with Akshay’s film Padman, which incidentally was based on a short story she wrote. Akshay said, “My wife is very, very choosy, I don’t know what is in her head and right now she is busy with her book. I don’t read books but I do know the story of her next. I am one of those to whom she narrates the story as I can’t sit and read, I am into sports. I love the title of her book.”
In answer to what he has to say about Twinkle taking to writing, Akshay came up with the aforementioned gem. “Yes, looking at the 14 films what she has done, writing has been her best decision. I still remember when I was doing films with her, before the shot was ready and the lighting was done, she used to just have a book and she used to keep on reading. There was a fruit plate beside her and she used to finish the entire fruit plate and keep on reading. She used to read one novel a day.” When asked if she wasn’t focusing on acting at the time, he said, “That’s right.” Now, we are waiting to hear what Twinkle has to say about husband dearest’s comment.
Twinkle has often commented how she hated bing in films and find it gratifying that she found herself a career that lasts.
Talking about his own cinematic process, Akshay said that once he is in the get-up, everything falls into place. “Once you get the look right, automatically everything falls into place. It is the first day is problematic because you get the hold of the character only on the second day. I often go to the director and ask him or her to shoot the first day again,” he said.
Akshay also spoke about his character in Gold, Tapan Das. “He never scored a goal, never played, never even coached the team but his contribution was to select the right team and get all of them together. I like the guy, he was passionate. So despite being a drunkard and a man who used to cheat others, he is so close to my heart,” Akshay said.
The actor will also be seen playing the villain in Rajinikanth-starre 2.0 – a film that has been in the news for production delays and constantly changing release dates. Akshay had recently tweeted that the film will finally release on November 29 this year. “Tell your cameraman to tilt at my hand, my fingers are crossed. I hope they release the film. It is a beautiful film and there is a lot in that film. I have not seen a single frame of that film till now other than a few shots during dubbing.”
