Actor Akshay Kumar, who will be receiving his first National Award in the Capital today, has shared a video on Twitter in which he speaks about how his father encouraged him to follow his passion as a child. And how that motivation led him to become an actor.

He starts the video by talking about how happy he is to receive the National Award. He says that the day he got to know about the award, he spoke to his mother and remembered the day when he got his results as a child and how his marks were bad. As a child, he thought that he will be trashed at home. However, his father sat him down and asked him, “bete tum karna kya chahte ho?”. To this he answered that he was fond of sports and his father encouraged him to dedicate his time to sports and that they will support him.

This, Akshay says, was what led him to acting as well. “Khelte khelte mein martial arts karne lag gaya, modelling karne lag gaya and acting shuru kar di. Unhone mujhe har cheez mein suppot kiya hai,” says Akshay, who adds that if his parents had not explained his strength that day, he would have never got this award.

The actor talks about how the biggest reason to commit suicide in today’s generation is because of academic pressure or relationships, which is why he felt the need to share this. He urges people to talk about stress and depression and take help from friends, family and doctors. He also stresses on how important is it for parents to talk to their children instead of lecturing them.
