Actor Arjun Kapoor doesn’t take his success for granted. He prefers to use his status as a public figure to sway people towards causes that need attention. Currently, he is on a mission to advocate education for girls and empowerment for women. He says, “Growing up in an environment full of women, I’ve realised the importance of women in my life. I would be nowhere if I didn’t have the correct women in my life, [women] who are empowered with education, [whom] society allowed to breathe and become the people they are.”

Arjun has joined hands with the global campaign Girl Rising, which works for educating women and putting all girls in school. The 32-year-old had starred in the film Ki & Ka (2016), which was about mixing up the gender roles that Indian society has assigned to men and women. He adds, “Education basic necessity hai, sabka haq hai (everyone has a right to education). Who said that men deserve it and women need to work hard for it? It has been going on for years without being questioned, and change has to start from the youth today. Women are not allowed to make choices — choices are made for them. It’s rooted in our patriarchal society. It bothers me. Meri zindagi ke faisle koi aur kaise kar sakta hai (How can someone else make the decisions of my life)? Everyone should be an independent human being.”
