Saif Ali Khan’s latest release Chef is the official remake of Hollywood film Chef that starred Jon Favreau (2014). While the Hindi version is directed by Raja Krishna Menon, the English one was also directed by Jon Favreau.
Both the films have known faces playing each other. So, here’s a guide for the viewers about who’s is playing who in the remake.
Jon Favreau himself played the lead role in the original. He was called Carl Casper. Saif Ali Khan’s Roshan Kalra is his Indian avatar. Interestingly, they both are shown as chefs working in the US but Saif Ali Khan returns to India after getting fired from his job. He punches a customer who criticises his food.
Sofía Vergara (Inez) and Emjay Anthony (Percy) played Jon Favreau’s ex-wife and son in the original. Bollywood’s Chef has Padampriya (Radha Menon) and Svar Kamble (Armaan) playing those roles. The Hindi one is more an exploration of father-son relationship, while the wife’s character was better crafted in Favreau’s film.
Remember Sobhita Dhulipala from Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0? Well, she is playing Saif’s Indian friend Vinnie in the film. The same role was played by Scarlett Johansson (Molly) in 2014’s Chef.
But the character everybody wants to know about is played by Milind Soman. He gets into the skin of Vijju, a rich Kerala guy. He seeks inspiration from Robert Downey Jr’s Marvin.
Raghu Dixit also makes an appearance in Saif’s film the way Russell Peters does in Favreau’s film.
