Dhadak box office day 1 is bigger than SOTY, earns Rs 8.71 crore

Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter’s Dhadak has opened to Rs 8.71 crore collection, but will it be able to sustain the momentum?

Dhadak, the Hindi remake of Marathi hit Sairat, has opened as per the expectations. The film, which is also marks the debut of late Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor, has collected more than Rs 8 crore on its opening day. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh has tweeted the film’s first day business figures and compared it with the first day collection of Student Of The Year (2012).

Both the films are produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and were the launch vehicles of newcomers, mostly star-kids. While Student Of The Year featured Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra, Dhadak starred Janhvi and Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother Ishaan Khatter.

Adarsh said, “#Dhadak takes a HEROIC START... Rarely does a film starring absolute newcomers open so well... Day 1 is higher than #StudentOfTheYear [ 8 cr]… Fri 8.71 cr. India biz.”

Dhadak is directed by Shashank Khaitan who has earlier directed films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania.

Khaitan, in an interview to IANS, said, “I am feeling calm and composed because of the way this film has turned out to be. I am really happy with it. The gun has been fired and now nothing is in our hands. So, I am just excited about the audience reaction. Praying that they will like the film.”
