Back in the ’90s, casting Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in a David Dhawan film was considered the safest business decision. In that period, the trio delivered numerous hits like Coolie No. 1 (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Hero No. 1 (1997), Raja Babu (1994) and Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999). Now, Dhawan is considering reuniting the dream team for a song in his next film — a remake of the 1981 hit, Chashme Buddoor. “It is a good idea and it is on my mind,” admits the filmmaker, when asked.

Although he has finished shooting most of the film, only one song called ‘Har ek friend kamina hota hain’ needs to be shot. “I’m considering roping them in them for the song, but I have already begun working on a full-fledged film script for them. I’d rather give them an entire movie. They are great actors,” says the director, who has worked with Govinda in 17 films.

Commenting on Karisma’s comeback film, Vikram Bhatt’s Dangerous Ishq, he adds, “I felt her potential was not entirely exploited. No one can do justice to her acting skills like I have in the past. The two of them are exceptional performers.”

Produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Dhawan’s remake of Chashme Buddoor features singer-turned-actor Ali Zafar and south star Siddharth. It is set to hit the theatres early next year.
