There is no stopping this trend of making biopics in Bollywood. Currently, there are films being planned on the lives of boxer Mary Kom, hockey player Dhyan Chand, Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi, filmmaker-musician Kishore Kumar and mathematician Ramanujan.

Now, a new name has joined that list. The latest icon whose life will be recreated for the big screen is the celebrated magician, late Protul Chandra Sorcar or PC Sorcar, who became famous back in the ’50s and ’60s.

Soumik Sen, who has directed the upcoming film, Gulaab Gang, has taken permission from Sorcar’s son, PC Sorcar Junior — who himself is an accomplished magician — for the biopic.

“I acquired the rights to make this biopic some time ago. I’ve always found his life very fascinating,” says Soumik, adding, “I have already written a script… it’s almost locked. In between, I got busy with Gulaab Gang, so now I will take it forward again.”

A few months ago, Soumik approached PC Sorcar Junior regarding the film, and after hearing the director’s concept, he immediately agreed.

Ask him whether he has signed anyone to play the role of the revered magician and he says, “I can’t reveal the name, as the person who we have approached is yet to confirm his dates. All I can say is that he is a well-known star.”
