He might not be the king of Bollywood as yet, but he's definitely the Rs 100 cr (R...)Rajkumar he had always aspired to become.
As Shahid Kapoor turns 33, the actor is basking in the success of his latest Sonakshi Sinha starrer R...Rajkumar and the compliments he's getting for his latest avatar in Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider.
Here's looking at his top five makeovers.
HAIDER: With a beard and a short cropped hairdo, Shahid Kapoor transforms into Vishal Bhardwaj's Hamlet aka Haider with aplomb. The actor is also going bald for the film, though he had a hard time making up his mind for it.
R...RAJKUMAR: Shahid Kapoor not only got rugged and muscular for Prabhu Deva's directorial venture, he turned into a complete tapori, unlearning all the sophistication he was known for. "Gandi baat, Shahid," his fans said, but flocked at theatres to watch his latest avatar anyway.
The makeover definitely worked for him, as he got his first 100 crore film.
Sadly, this was a makeover that earned him no brownie points.
PHATA POSTER NIKLA HERO: Shahid got into Chulbul Pandey mould for this one, but couldn't fit. He tried every antic of a hero (dialogue-baazi, crazy dance, and a lot of masala mannerisms), but ended up looking like a zero. Even his chemistry with Ileana D'Cruz didn't do much for him.
MAUSAM: His army man look with a moustache created a lot of buzz around the film. Exuding the old-world charm, Shahid's avatar even garnered him good reviews. But a film also needs to be a crowd-puller on its own, which Mausam was not.
Kaminey in every sense changed the ball game for Shahid.
KAMINEY: He worked on his physique, pulled off stunts, looked rugged, appeared in a double role, and dhen ten nan, a brand new Shahid was born. His performance was rated as "his best-ever till date", in his first-ever action role in this Vishal Bhardwaj's directorial venture.
