Here’s why Aahana Kumra initially refused Lipstick Under my Burkha
Actor Aahana Kumra almost couldn’t be a part of Lipstick Under My Burkha because she was shooting for Amitabh Bachchan’s fictional debut TV series, Yudh. Directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, the film will release on July 21.bollywood Updated: Jul 07, 2017 17:26 IST
Director Alankrita Shrivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha shows actor Aahana Kumra as a small-town girl who is being forced into a marriage by her parents.
The film is the story of four women desperately in search of freedom from their mundane lives. It features Konkona Sensharma, Ratna Pathak and Vikrant Massey in lead roles.
While the film is being widely appreciated for its nuanced approach to what women want, Aahana has now revealed that she almost couldn’t be a part of the final line-up of actors: At the time of Lipstick Under My Burkha’s schedule, she was shooting for Amitabh Bachchan’s fictional debut TV series, Yudh.
Aahana had to reluctantly say no to Lipstick Under My Burkha, but was unhappy that she couldn’t be a part of such a great script. Fortunately for her, the film’s production dates were pushed and when Alankrita contacted Aahana again asking her to take up the role, the actor instantly agreed to it.
“Alankrita’s casting team Shruti and Parag called me and asked if I was free. I was surprised to know they hadn’t shot the film yet. They said we are still keen on you but now there is an audition process that you have to go through. They had auditioned almost the whole of Bombay and I too tested for the part. I bagged the role and was so happy to be collaborating on a script that was going to turn into a movement with the most stellar cast,” Aahana told Hindustan Times.
Lipstick Under My Burkha hits theatres on July 21.
