How did Aishwarya Rai react when Abhishek Bachchan didn’t work for two years? He reveals

Abhishek Bachchan has revealed how wife Aishwarya Rai reacted to his two-year long break from movies.

Aishwarya Rai was the perfect wife and an understanding friend to Abhishek Bachchan in his two-year-long hiatus from movies, which he broke after signing for Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan. The actor says she was fine with his break even while his parents, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, did seem a bit concerned.

In an interview with journalist Anupama Chopra for Film Companion, Abhishek talked about how his family took his break from movies. “I didn’t say I don’t wanna be an actor anymore, I just said I need to change the kind of films I am doing. It took two years for me to get the right film, that I perceived to be the right film... How was it on the family? I spoke to them, I told them and they were very supportive... They were okay with it. I think somewhere they were like ‘Okay, one year has gone by, what is this guy doing? I think that’s a parental instinct. My wife was fine because I walk my family through everything I do so they are on the same page,” he said.

Abhishek recently finished shooting for Manmarziyaan, in which he plays a Sikh man. Tapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal are also a part of the film.

Talking about how Aishwarya also took a break from acting after Aaradhya was born, Abhishek said, “When she came back (to movies), she went through the same insecurities of ‘Am I gonna be able to do?’. ‘Am I gonna pick up where I left off?’ ‘I am gonna climb that mountain again?’”

Abhishek calls the break ‘the best thing that he did in his career’ as it helped him clear his head. He was last seen in Housefull 3 in 2016.
