Long before director Zoya Akhtar’s new film even went on the floors, Bollywood was abuzz with rumours claiming that Ranbir Kapoor was set to play a sibling to cousin Kareena Kapoor Khan in the multi-starrer. But, for various reasons, neither Ranbir nor Kareena ended up being part of the film.

Now, the film’s shoot is already underway. But Ranbir still refuses to talk about the offer. When asked whether he, indeed, was offered the film with Kareena, he remains vague, saying, “So many actors are offered so many films, which are eventually done by other actors. And when other actors are doing those films, it’s not fair to speak about those projects.”

Ranbir adds that he, too, has done films like Rockstar (2011) and Barfi! (2012) that were initially offered to other stars. “I think if an actor isn’t part of the film, it’s destiny,” he says.

Reacting to the rumours that suggested he didn’t have the time to do Zoya’s film, he adds, “Various factors are at play — sometimes you don’t have the dates, sometimes the character doesn’t work, sometimes you feel like you have already done a similar character before. So, I really wouldn’t like to say that I was offered Zoya’s film and that I refused it.”

At the same time, Ranbir maintains that he would love to work with the director in the future. “She is an extremely talented film-maker and I really want to work with her. I hope that happens in the future,” he says.
