After announcing the launch date for the first trailer of his ambitious biopic, Sanju, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani promised fans that he would share character posters of other actors from the film that stars Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role as Sanjay Dutt. Sonam Kapoor was the first one to be introduced and Paresh Rawal became the second one when his poster was unveiled on Saturday.
Paresh plays Ranbir’s onscreen dad, Sunil Dutt in the film. In the new poster, we see a scared Ranbir as Sanjay Dutt in the arms of Paresh who wears a concerned, worried look on his face as he tries to comfort his son. Sharing the poster, Rajkumar tweeted, “#sanju is a father-son story. Meet the father today - Paresh Rawal. Had fun working with him. #RanbirKapoor @VVCFilms @foxstarhindi @SirPareshRawal."
Interestingly, the role of late Sunil Dutt was initially offered to Aamir Khan but he wanted to play Sanjay and did not agree to essay the role of his dad. “He (Hirani) approached me with the script and I loved it. He wanted me to play Dutt saab’s role. It is a fantastic role and the story is largely on the father-son relationship. But Sanju’s role is unbelievable. So as an actor, I told Raju that Sanjay Dutt’s role is so wonderful that it won my heart. So in this film I can’t do any other role but Sanjay Dutt’s, which of course I cannot do because Ranbir (Kapoor) is playing it. So, do not offer me anything,” Aamir told IANS.
On Friday, the filmmaker shared Sonam’s first look from the film and going by the poster, she could be playing either Tina Munim or Madhuri Dixit. Both Sonam and Ranbir don a retro look from early 90s and give a vibe of lively, romantic couple. Rajkumar wrote on Twitter, “A page from #Sanju’s crazy romantic love life! Watch the #SanjuTrailer on 30th May. #RanbirKapoor @RajkumarHirani #RajkumarHiraniFilms @VVCFilms @foxstarhindi.”
Based on the life and struggles of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, Sanju also stars Anushka Sharma, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Dia Mirza, Karishma Tanna, Jim Sarbh and Boman Irani in lead roles. While Anushka is likely to play Sanjay’s lawyer, Manisha is essaying the role of his mom, Nargis Dutt.
