The newest kid in town, Ishaan Khatter and his star brother Shahid Kapoor share a rare bond and now we have the Dhadak actor confirming it.In an interview to the magazine, Ishaan spoke at length about his equation with his big brother and how he started out idolising him. Earlier, their mother Neelima Azim had said in an interview how Shahid changed their lives. “I saw Shahid growing as a dancer after that and he became an impeccable performer. After that, he just changed our lives. He took our lives forward in Bombay. We started living better, we had all the luxuries and comfort.”
Ishaan made his Bollywood debut in Karan Johar’s Dhadak along with another star kid, Janhvi Kapoor. The film, a Hindi remake of Marathi hit Sairat, has turned out to be a hit. Together, Ishaan and Janhvi have featured on the cover of film glossy, Filmfare.
Actually, even before he spoke, no one could have escaped the unmistakable bond between the two brothers. Shahid, not only indulges his kid brother, he has been a rather protective brother too and promoted him as well. Shahid has, in the past, been seen on sets while Ishaan was shooting for his first film, Iranian master Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds.
Ishaan, speaking about Shahid, said that the latter loves to play the big brother. He explained how he was only eight years old when Shahid made his film debut with Ishq Vishk in 2003. He would be there on the sets with Shahid and run around the place. Initially he “loved him and idolised him”. As he grew older, he would often ask him questions on his craft and later went on to assist in Udta Pnjab, which starred Shahid in the lead role. He added that, in effect, his own understanding of films and his brother’s work has been both subjective and objective.
“Yes, of course. His first film (Ishq Vishk) released in 2003. I was eight when he became a film star. I was fascinated by it all. So I’d run around with him on his sets. I was on his sets almost every day. I’d watch the actors, the cinematographers... Initially, I loved him and idolised him. Then I started watching his films more seriously. I started asking him questions like how he prepared for a certain role, what inspired him or how he enacted a particular role. Eventually, I was able to assist in a film (Udta Punjab), in which he was also performing. I had my own set of responsibilities as well. It was interesting as I was both objective and subjective. Shahid’s been a big influence in my life.”
Speaking of their bond as brothers, she said that Shahid loved to play the big brother but he also like a friend and talks to him of his life’s experiences.
