Dhadak stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter in lead roles.

Dhadak has passed the Monday test. As per trade reports, the film has already made over Rs 39 crores at the end of four days of its release. That’s a huge plus for a film with newcomers Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. And while critics have frowned at the film lacking the bite of the original Sairat, audiences don’t seem to mind it.

There’s no denying that the film’s lead cast, Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, must have heaved a sigh of relief. More so, Janhvi as she also has the burden of emerging out of the shadow of her mother, late Sridevi. As the film goes strong at the box office, the young actor took to Instagram to thank all who made Dhadak possible, especially the crew members. That’s rather sweet, we thought.

She wrote: “Thankful, grateful, and blessed ???? for all of you, and because of all of you. #dhadak.”

In one of the pictures that she has shared we can see a shot being canned. There’s the cinematographer peering into the camera as other members surround him. In the background, we can see a lake in the night time. The film has primarily been shot in Rajasthan and Kolkata. This could be Udaipur or Jaipur, but we are not clear.

Dhadak maintained a steady flow, despite a slight dip in collections on Monday. Tweeting about it, Taran Adarsh wrote: “The love story gets the love of the audience... #Dhadak passes the crucial Monday examination... Packs a SOLID number on Day 4... Eyes ? 53 cr [+/-] Week 1 total... Fri 8.71 cr, Sat 11.04 cr, Sun 13.92 cr, Mon 5.52 cr. Total: ? 39.19 cr. India biz.”

Dhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan, is a Hindi adaptation of the hit Marathi film, Sairat. The original was a stinging criticism of caste system and was directed by Nagraj Manjule. It starred Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar. Dhadak has been criticised for softening its gaze on caste and thereby reducing its impact. Some of the most memorable imagery of the divide, in the original, is in the manner with which Rinku’s character adapts to her more difficult transformation.
