Actor John Abraham, a self-proclaimed fan of political thrillers, has been offered to play the protagonist in one, to be directed by Shoojit Sircar.
Sircar debuted with Yahaan, toplining Jimmy Sheirgil and Minnisha Lamba. “I am quite thrilled. Shoojit came to me a few days ago with the script. I’m impressed with the story and the character he wants me to play,” says John, who refused to divulge more, pointing out that he would comment on the film after all details had been finalised.
The actor admits he’s in awe of girlfriend Bipasha Basu’s performance in Lamhaa. “I don’t care for the box office figures. Lamhaa is a brave film. I love the way Rahul Dholakia narrates a story.”
“I don’t approve of the ban on the film in Pakistan and the Middle-East because I feel it was unnecessary. It analyses the Kashmir issue intelligently,” states the actor.
He believes that if the film could be passed in India, with a dialogue like “Indian dogs go away” with wise censorship, no other country should ideally have objected to the content in the film.
Abraham also plans to flag off his production company next year. Wouldn’t he want to fund Sircar’s film then?
“I may or may not produce Shoojit’s film. It depends on the budget,” he avers, explaining that he plans to make unpretentious entertaining films with modest budgets. “I’m planning to team up with big studios and get them on board as co-producers. It helps me in formulating an effective crew.”
Would girlfriend Bipasha and he be part of the projects? “We’re not making films for self-promotion,” replies John, adding, “If there is something for both or either of us in a film, we’re up for it.”
