Omkara sequel on the cards

Producer Kumar Mangat confirms he’s planning to flag it off next year.

Producer Kumar Mangat is keen to offer a second instalment of his 2006-hit Omkara, directed by filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj. “I am thinking of the sequel. I think that film has huge prospect,” he states, adding that he plans to flag it off next year.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone as yet. There is an idea and I will speak about it soon.”

Co-written by Bhardwaj, Robin Bhatt and Abhishek Chaubey, the multi-starrer desi version of Shakespeare’s Othello won several awards including three National Awards in 2007.

The film, among the highest grossers of 2006, toplined Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Konkona Sen Sharma along with Naseeruddin Shah. The film was applauded by the critics and the audience alike.

Before Omkara’s sequel, Kumar has locked the sequel to his recent hit Pyar Ka Punchnama which toplined fresh faces and was directed by debutant Luv Ranjan.

The film was a romantic comedy about three bachelors who fall in love with girls of their choices. The women wreck havoc in their peaceful lives.

“We will start shooting by mid-2012,” he adds. The film’s cast will be retained and the story will move ahead."

“There were loads of things that we couldn’t show in our first outing. We’ll put it all into the second one. We’re really excited.”

Director Luv has started shooting for his second film Akashwani, with one of the lead pairs of Pyar Ka Punchnama, Kartik Tiwari and Nushrat Bharucha.

“It’s a romantic-comedy,” says Kumar, who will be flagging off three big projects with top stars in February next year.

“There are some formalities that are yet to be completed. I would not prefer to disclose anything right now.”
