Padma awards for film artists

Late singer Bhupen Hazarika, former diplomat Ronen Sen, noted painter Jatin Das, Dhrupad exponents Gundecha brothers, and industrialist Priya Paul, were among the 53 persons who were recently conferred the Padma awards.

Bollywood bagged a fair share of awards at the event held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Taz Hazarika, son of Hazarika, received the Padma Vibhushan award from President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, while film director Mira Nair got the Padma Bhushan. Music composer Vanraj Bhatia, noted exponent of Manipuri historical ballads Nameirakpam Ibemni Devi, playwrights Moti Lal Kemmu and Satish Alekar, theatre personalities Joy Michael and Natesan Muthuswamy got the Padma Shri awards.
