Telugu film actor Prabhas, who became a household name across India with the two Baahubali movies, says that he might accept an offer from Bollywood after wrapping up the big-ticket Saaho.bollywood Updated: Sep 19, 2017 20:11 IST
There’s speculation about Telugu film actor Prabhas soon making his Bollywood debut — the smash hit Baahubali films, in which he played the lead, weren’t strictly Bollywood, though the Hindi versions gave the films an all-India audience. However, Prabhas says there’s still time. He plans to first finish his cinema projects in south India, especially the big-ticket trilingual action film, Saaho, co-starring Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor.
“I might do a Bollywood film. I’ve been [getting] some good offers,” says Prabhas. “But I’ll first need to finish Saaho, and a beautiful love story (that he has signed). The film is set in Europe of the 1960s-70s. We’re planning to wrap them up by June-July next year. After that, I’ll take up a Bollywood film.”
The actor says that more than the language of a film, what interests him are stories with a universal appeal. Such stories, much like Baahubali, have the potential to do well all over India, and in overseas markets, feels Prabhas.
“I want to do Indian films based on scripts with a universal appeal,” says Prabhas. “The way Baahubali has connected with people all over India… it has given us recognition all over the country. It’s a humbling experience. I’m thankful to the entire team. [Filmmaker] SS Rajamouli’s vision worked. His magic worked and something really great happened. We all are going to remember it for the rest of our lives, and that’s beautiful.”
Given his popularity now in India and abroad, would the next step be an international film? Prabhas says, “I’ve never thought about doing international films. But if I get something exciting, I might take it up. Everything depends on what comes my way. Baahubali gave me something that’s really huge. So, as of now, I want to do Indian films.”
