Post the success of Dabangg (2010), Salman Khan was called Chulbul Pandey, his character in the film. And although director Abhinav Singh Kashyap couldn’t take forward the inspector’s antics further (after an alleged fallout with Salman and Arbaaz Khan), we’ve come to know that he has resurrected Chulbul in his next, Besharam. The film has Ranbir Kapoor in the lead.

“Not many are aware that Rishiji’s (Kapoor) character is called Chulbul. And like Salman, he is an innately funny policeman. In fact, Neetuji (Kapoor) plays a female police officer called Bulbul,” informs a source from the sets. “And their comic timing is simply superb.”

And contrary to popular perception, the Kapoors won’t be seen as Ranbir’s parents in the film. “They are portraying Haryanvi cops. While Neetuji’s character is loud, aggressive and corrupt, Rishiji is her soft-spoken counterpart. And since Chulbul became so popular among fans, it was Abhinav’s idea to bring him back,” adds the insider.

Despite repeated attempts, Abhinav, who wrapped up the Mumbai schedule a couple of days ago, couldn’t be reached for a comment.
