Saif Ali Khan’s Chef, a remake of Jon Favreau’s 2014 film of the same name, continued to underperform at the box office, collecting Rs 1.35 crore on Saturday.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film showed moderate increase over the opening day collections of Rs 1.05 crore, which he described as ‘shockingly low’.
#Chef shows limited growth on Day 2... 2-day total is extremely poor... Fri 1.05 cr, Sat 1.35 cr. Total: ₹ 2.40 cr. India biz.— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) October 8, 2017
Chef follows the story of a famed chef, played by Saif, who tries to reconnect with his son, whom he has ignored for years because of his career. Together, they take embark on a culinary adventure.
The film was met with lukewarm reviews. The Hindustan Times review said “the film offers moments of brilliance which, if weaved in a more organised manner, may have given us a light, affable film. But a lazy and rather uninterested narrative takes away the pleasure.”
This marks the sixth flop in a row for Saif Ali Khan, who has three new projects in the pipeline - two films, and one Netflix show.
