Salman Khan will decide on Sooraj Pancholi's role: Subhash Ghai
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai says Salman will take the final call on the decision to cast Aditya Pancholi’s son Sooraj in his next film, which is being co-produced by Khan’s production house.bollywood Updated: Jun 26, 2013 10:23 IST
Earlier this year, Sooraj Pancholi made headlines when reports claimed that Salman Khan would launch him in Bollywood with the remake of Subhash Ghai’s 1983-hit, Hero. However, in the past few days, the debut of Aditya Pancholi’s son (who is in judicial custody till June 27 in connection with the Jiah Khan suicide case) has become a murky affair.
Ghai, the co-producer of the remake, said in an interview to a daily, a few days ago that the makers “have not yet confirmed Sooraj or Athiya Shetty” (Suniel Shetty’s daughter) for the film. And now, the veteran filmmaker tells us that everything depends on Salman.
On being asked whether Sooraj is still part of the venture, Ghai only says, “Salman will take the final call on this. We’re yet to finalise the details.” Salman Khan Productions and Ghai’s Mukta Arts have come together for the remake of the Jackie Shroff-Meenakshi Seshadri starrer. The makers are yet to finalise a director too.
Sources close to the Dabangg (2010) star say that he isn’t in the mood to take any “rash decisions”. “Salman is waiting for Sooraj to get out of jail. He has been in touch with Aditya. Although it’s unlikely that Salman will back out from launching Sooraj, right now, he isn’t thinking about it,” says the source. Salman is currently busy wrapping up brother Sohail Khan’s next, Mental.
Aditya, too, isn’t willing to react. “Why don’t you talk to Subhash Ghai or Salman bhai about this? I am not the right person to answer this question. And if Mr Ghai is saying anything like that, you should print it,” he says.
Hours before leaving for a family holiday to the US, Athiya’s father Suneil had insisted that the film is very much on track. “If Sooraj is under the scanner it doesn’t mean that I will ask my daughter not to work with him. This incident will not affect their Bollywood debut. It will not affect our project as this could happen to anyone,” he told HT.
