Sidharth to step into Rajesh Khanna’s shoes for the remake of Ittefaq

Actor Sidharth Malhotra is all set to essay the lead role — of an artist who ends up murdering his wife — in the remake of 1969 Ittefaq.

Actor Sidharth Malhotra will be essaying the lead role in the remake of Rajesh Khanna starrer Ittefaq (1969). The murder mystery revolves around the life of a passionate painter who ends up murdering his wife. The original film was a remake of British film Signpost to Murder.

“Ittefaq is a different and a very special movie for me. The character I portray is unlike any of the characters I have played so far and I am really excited to retrieve the genre of murder mystery with the classic cult movie,” says Malhotra, who was last seen in Baar Baar Dekho.

The film will be produced by Gauri Khan. Actor Sonakshi Sinha will play the role of Khanna’s wife — the role yesteryear actor Nanda played in the 1969 film.

Malhotra says, “The shoot will start in February next year and it is a start to end dedicated schedule.”

The film’s plot is going to be tweaked and the length of the film will be shortened.
