Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Stree is on its way to become a sleeper hit as it rides on good word of mouth and largely positive reviews. Stree box office collection for the first weekend is Rs 31.26 crore and it will get a further fillip with Monday being a holiday on account of Krishna Janmashtami in many parts of India.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “All estimations and calculations go for a toss... #Stree wreaks havoc at ticket counters... Multiplexes, single screens, metros, mass circuits - this one has worked across the board... Fri 6.82 cr, Sat 10.87 cr, Sun 13.57 cr. Total: Rs 31.26 cr. India biz.”

On Sunday, he had revealed the film’s opening numbers, “Stree catches speed and hits double digits on Day 2... The low costs and high theatrical returns makes it a BIG SUCCESS... Expect further growth on Day 3... Eyes Rs 30 cr [+/-] weekend... Fri 6.82 cr, Sat 10.87 cr. Total: Rs 17.69 cr. India biz.”
The film gives both Rajkummar and Shraddha Kapoor a hit. While Shraddha’s biggest opener ever was 2014’s Ek Villain with Rs 16 crore earning, this is Rajkummar’s highest day one collection.
With Monday being a holiday, Stree will again expand its BO collection. Tuesday will come as a true test for the film, which is a horror comedy.
Till now, Stree has done better than films such as Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Fukrey Returns that have done good box office business this year. With Rs 26.57 crore in its kitty within three days, the Kartik Aaryan film went on to become a superhit.
Stree managed to cement its place despite a clash with Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se at the box office. The film starring Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol earned Rs.1.50-1.75 crore (net) on the day of its release. As Adarsh wrote, “When numbers do the talking... #Stree surpasses the expectations and estimations and posts a SUPERB number on Day 1... Biz is expected to multiply over the weekend... Fri ₹ 6.82 cr. India biz... Hugely positive word of mouth has translated into BO numbers.”
