Veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital late Wednesday, has reportedly been put on ventilator support after his condition worsened.

Hospital sources told ANI on Thursday that the actor’s condition was no better since his admission, and has been admitted to its intensive care unit due to kidney issues. The creatinine level in his blood had spiked, they added.

According to a report in news daily DNA, the Devdas star is now on ventilator support. “His kidney functions have not improved. On the contrary, it has worsened. He is on ventilator. We will be able to give a proper briefing in the morning,” it quoted Dr Jalil Parkar, who is treating Kumar, as saying.

The actor was seen in the company of his wife, Saira Banu, on Thursday. He was earlier hospitalised for fever and nausea in April 2016.

Kumar – better known as the Tragedy King of Bollywood – acted in over 65 movies through his career. Besides Devdas (1955), he is known for his iconic roles in movies like Naya Daur (1957), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Ganga Jamuna (1961), Kranti (1981) and Karma (1986). Last seen on the big screen in Qila (1998), the actor was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
