Sharing the poster, Varun wrote in Hindi: “Mamta aur Mauji bade mauj se pesh karte hain Sui Dhaaga Made In India ka pehla poster! #SuiDhaagaMadeInIndia trailer out on 13th August. Bhulna mat!”

The poster shows the lovely couple, Mamta and Mauji. The husband is a tailor by profession and the wife does embroidery. On the poster, the two are in a room full of clothes, spools, needle boxes, measuring tape and all the tailoring paraphernalia. In the middle is a sewing machine with Varun sitting on it and Anushka standing alongside.

This is a typical middle class set up--Varun sports a dull, grey coloured-shirt with mustard half sleeves sweater and a pair of brown pants. He paired the outfit with sneakers and also dons a moustache. Anushka is wearing a printed blue and purple synthetic sari, paired with a full sleeves sweater. She wears the sari’s pallu around her head, as many married women across India do. With her centre parting, bindi and a lone bangle, Anushka looks every bit a housewife-seamstress while Varun channels his inner small-town married man. The room itself is in a fairly dilapidated condition--the plaster on the wall has peeled off and the paint itself is patchy at many places.

Sharing the same poster, YRF wrote in Hindi: “Eik aisi kahani joh hai Made In India for India! #SuiDhaagaMadeInIndia Trailer Out on 13th August!” Looks like YRF is keen on telling stories from small-town India, a trend that began with films like Dum Laga Ke Haishaa.

In an Instagram story, shared by Varun, we can see both of them dressed as their characters. At one point, Varun starts following Anushka with the camera, even as she tries to shy away, often covering her face or showing her back to the camera.

All the artists sent their own designs in gorgeous colours and fabrics.

The Sui Dhaaga logo has been done in a striking, globally popular Indian hand needlework forms of Kashida and Sozni from Kashmir, colourful Phulkari from Punjab, the intricate thread work forms Rabari and Mochi Bharat from Gujarat, Phool Patti from Uttar Pradesh and Zardozi work from Lucknow. It has also be created in Rajasthan’s prominent crafts like Aari, Banjara and Gota Patti, Tamil Nadu’s popular Toda style and Karnataka’s Kasuti design. Traveling towards the east, which constitutes of over 50 percent of the India’s handloom exports, the film’s logo has been made in Pipli style from Odisha, Handloom work from Assam, Kantha stitch work from West Bengal.
