Veere Di Wedding becomes third highest opener of 2018, beats Raid and PadMan
Veere Di Wedding has done the unthinkable. The film has become the third highest opening Bollywood film of 2018. As per film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Veere Di Wedding has earned Rs 10.70 crore on its opening day.
It’s a great feat to achieve considering the fact that Veere Di Wedding wasn’t the only release this week. It hit the screens alongside Harshvardhan Kapoor’s Bhavesh Joshi Superhero. It performed better than films like PadMan and Raid on the first day.

Now, consider the number of screens it was given and you’ll realise the value of its success. Veere Di Wedding that stars Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania in the lead roles, was allotted 2177 screens in India and 470 screens overseas, which is way less than what big Bollywood films starring A-lister male actors get.
Not only is the film performing well in India, it has also debuted in top 10 in countries like UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Veere Di Wedding is the female buddy film that Bollywood fans have been waiting for long.
However, a bigger battle is still to be won by Veere Di Wedding. In 2018, five films have crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark so far. These include Padmaavat, Baaghi 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Raid and Raazi. To equal or surpass them, Veere Di Wedding will have to sustain the momentum for at least a week.
Will it be able to do that?
