After the roaring success of Ready song ‘Character dheela…’ singer Neeraj Shridhar has been busy shuttling between recording studios. “I am happy with the way people are loving it. Pritam’s catchy tune, coupled with the lyrics, especially the title of the song, which is part of common parlance among Indians, have struck the right chord with listeners,” says the singer.
Shridhar rose to fame with his Indo-Swedish band Bombay Vikings’ remixes like ‘Kya soorat hai…’ and ‘Woh chali…’ in the last decade, before making his Bollywood debut.
With many dance hits like ‘Hey baby…’, ‘Prem ki naiyya..’ and ‘Love mera hit…’ under his belt, the singer couldn’t be happier.“I am currently working on songs for Housefull 2, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Rascals,” he reveals.
Known for his velvety voice, the singer recalls that after the release of his debut Kya Soorat Hai in 1999, many in the industry had written him off as a “one-album guy”. “Back then, there was criticism for the kind of music I did. But I was determined and eventually, Bollywood happened. Looking back, I have no regrets about anything,” he tells.
Having begun his music career as an independent artiste before taking up playback singing, Shridhar laments the lack of avenues for pursuing a successful music career outside of the film industry.
“I think it’s not fair that over the past years, Bollywood has overshadowed everything. There is so much talent in the country and they need encouragement by record labels that no longer produce work by independent artistes,” says he.
Almost five years since he released his last album, the singer informs that a new one is in the pipeline, “I am a rocker and really want to do the kind of music I’m passionate about. Hopefully, you will see the album soon”, he smiles.
