Usually, superheroes never fail to strike a chord with the audience. Now, director Vikramaditya Motwane is set to bring another such character to the big screen. He will helm a live-action film, which will feature Chakra, an Indian superhero created by the iconic Stan Lee, who has created several popular characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Fantastic Four and X-Men, etc. “Vikramaditya is currently working on the screenplay of the film with Lee and Sharad Devarajan, who is the creative partner on the project. The film version of Chakra will feature an older version of the character in his twenties, set against the backdrop of Mumbai,” says an insider.

“I’m a fan of Bollywood films, and I am excited about launching Chakra as my first Bollywood superhero movie. Vikramaditya is an amazingly talented film-maker, who I know can make the film a massive hit in India, and around the world,” says Lee. To this, Vikramaditya adds,“It’s an honour, and an absolute delight to be making a film based on a Stan Lee character. We are very excited, and we hope to take comic book film-making to the next level with Chakra.”

Devarajan says he has “been fortunate to find both a groundbreaking director and a passionate comic-book fan in Vikram, who will be able to create something uniquely Indian and authentic to Stan’s pantheon of superhero storytelling”. Chakra was originally featured in a kids’ animation film on a cartoon channel in India two years ago.
