When Sushant Singh Rajput couldn’t recognise his Raabta co-star Rajkummar Rao

Rajkummar Rao’s elaborate makeup to get into the skin of his character of a 324-year-old man in Raabta left actor Sushant Singh Rajput speechless.

Sushant Ringh Rajput didn’t recognise his friend and co-star Rajkummar Rao when he saw him in his Raabta get-up, in which he plays a 324-year-old man. “When he first came on the set, I just couldn’t recognise him. I did not know it was him! It was only a while later, when he started talking on the sets, I figured out,” says Sushant, who has earlier worked with Rajkummar in Kai Po Che (2012).

Surprisingly, Sushant says that he wasn’t even aware that Rajkummar was a part of the film, which also stars Kriti Sanon and Jim Sarbh. “After I got to know that he was also working in the film, I was so ecstatic,” says the 31-year-old, adding that just like Rajkummar, he also spent a lot of hours doing makeup for his character and look in the film. “His [Rajkummar] look was more elaborate, so that took hours. But I also spent a lot of time doing makeup and getting the look right for the film. Apart from that, there was a lot of martial arts that I had to learn,” adds Sushant.

Since both the actors originally hail from Delhi, Sushant says Rajkummar is a good friend, and he was thrilled when they first worked together in the same film. In an earlier interview, talking about his friendly appearance in the film, Rajkummar had said that it was fun while shooting for Raabta. “It was so much fun as an actor. Dinoo (Dinesh Vijan) has a very clear vision as a director, and he gave me a lot of freedom as an actor to explore,” he had said.
