When the late Indira Gandhi heard that her son Rajiv was to marry an Italian woman, she told a close relative that she was not "shocked" but Delhi's girls could well be.

The Italian woman in question, of course, is Congress chief Sonia Gandhi - and politico-turning-author, former Kerala minister KV Thomas, is hoping to pack his forthcoming book on her with similar anecdotes and incidents.

In his yet untitled book in Malayalam, Thomas is hoping to recall similar conversations that throw light on the Congress president's life.

"It would have lot of anecdotes and a lot of insights," Thomas told IANS.

The book that will trace Sonia Gandhi's life will have about 300 pages with 20 chapters said Thomas, who is believed to be very close to her.

"Since it is a book I did not need permission from Sonia Gandhi. But I briefed her about it when I was in New Delhi last month and she said there is no problem," Thomas said.

He said he had already completed three chapters and was waiting for answers to a 20-point questionnaire he had given her.

"I expect her replies very soon," said Thomas.

The first chapter would be about Sonia Gandhi relinquishing the post of prime minister and the second would be about her childhood in a town in Italy.

Thomas' association with the Gandhi family began in the 1980s when he first became a Lok Sabha member from Ernakulam.

His closeness to the Gandhi family has held him in good stead, and he managed to retain his status as minister even when he jumped 'camps' - from K Karunakaran to AK Antony last year.
