A memoir by Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has been scheduled for a worldwide release this October.
For more than 30 years the rock legend has been the lead singer of the pioneering heavy metal band, which has played more than 2,000 shows and sold 90 million albums worldwide since it was formed in 1975.
In recent years, while travelling with Iron Maiden’s The Book of Souls world tour, Dickinson has been writing his memoirs longhand in a series of notebooks, according to an announcement from HarperNonFiction. Those writings will form the basis of the forthcoming book, titled What Does This Button Do?
The musician, who famously does not give interviews about his personal life, will share various recollections going back to his childhood and experiences in the “eccentric” British school system, through to his 30 years with the band.
Dickinson’s high-energy performances and persona aside, the musician is somewhat of a Renaissance man, and the memoir will also cover his experiences as airline pilot and captain – in the book he’ll discuss realising his dream of flying a jumbo jet – aviation entrepreneur, beer brewer, motivational speaker, film scriptwriter, novelist, radio presenter, TV actor and fencer. He will also discuss his recent battle with tongue cancer.
What Does This Button Do? releases internationally on October 19.
