Patti Smith, whose previous memoir Just Kids won the nonfiction prize at the US National Book Awards in 2011, has a follow-up on her work schedule for 2013.
The singer, artist and author already has a detective novel on the go, continues to tour in support of 2012 album Banga, and has a photography exhibit, Patti Smith: Camera Solo, opening at the Art Gallery of Ontario on February 9.
Indeed, Just Kids explored Smith's relationship with the renowned photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, but the sequel will be "more, perhaps, music based," she told Billboard, touching upon "family, [musician] Fred [Smith], music."
Should either Smith's second memoir or her detective novel reach bookshelves in 2013, they could be joining Billy Ray Cyrus's Hillbilly Heart, a Cee-Lo Green book, music biz exec Clive Davis's autobiography The Soundtrack of My Life, and an authorized picture-book biography of The Band's Robbie Robertson by his son Sebastian.
