Sachin Tendulkar fans can now rejoice. Besides watching the Master Blaster on the cricket ground and TV screens, fans will soon be able to take home a comic book based on the legendary cricketer.

Campfire Comics is currently in the process of developing a graphic novel that details Tendulkar’s life. Sports enthusiasts will also be regaled with biographies on boxer Muhammad Ali, footballer Pele and basketball players Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson among others. The first biography in the series is based on mountaineers Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, and is already out.

Sport related
“Graphic novels based on sportspersons will interest the young and adults alike. People love everything related to their favourite sport and sportspersons,” says Rajat Malhotra, content developer for Campfire Comics. He adds that such graphic novels enjoy a huge fan following among sports lovers across the world.

Sachin’s story
Campfire Comics was started with the aim of putting the fun back into reading. Their graphic novels come in four categories — classics, mythology, biography and originals. They are producing Sachin Tendulkar’s book as an original instead of a biography due to a copyrights issue. The story revolves around a young boy who idolises Sachin Tendulkar and wants to be like him.

Malhotra says, “The story is about Sachin Tendulkar, but not just about him. And he was not involved in its making.” The other books will be released under the category of a biography. One title takes a total of 200-220 days to complete and the books are created after extensive research. Malhotra says, “From books to websites, our writers research facts before preparing the content.”

He informs that it is more difficult to create a biography because they need to make sure that the facts are politically correct and authentic. He says, “It is important not to include any information that might affect the sentiments of the sportsperson.” The books have different release dates but will be available online and at leading bookstores by the end of the year.

All Booked
Tenzing Norgay
The book titled Conquering Everest features Tenzing Norgay. In 1953, Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary joined a team of explorers determined to summit Mount Everest, armed with little more than courage, determination and self-belief.

Muhammad Ali
One of the greatest boxers of the century, Muhammad Ali is heralded as an American hero and an embodiment of strength and talent. This is a gripping story about the life of a young boy, the obstacles he faced and what led him to become ‘the greatest’ boxer ever known.

Sachin Tendulkar
This story sketches the life of Sachin Tendulkar from when he was a little boy, his achievements and his road to stardom.
