Twilight seriesTwilight series has ranked fifth in the challenged book list, a rating of teen books which receive most complaints from parents and educators.

Elders are apparently unhappy with the sexual content in Stephenie Meyer's vampire tale.

The American Library Association, which comes up with the list, said that the inclusion of the vampire tale in the list reveals the societal discomfort with the supernatural.

"Vampire novels have been a target for years and the Twilight books are so immensely popular that a lot of the concerns people have had about vampires are focused on her books," the Washington Post quoted Barbara Jones, director of the association's Office for Intellectual Freedom, as saying.

The ALA defines a challenge as a "formal, written complaint filed with a library or school requesting that materials be removed because of content or appropriateness."

Lauren Myracle's IM series, novels told through instant messages, topped the list, because of nudity, language and drug references.
