NEW DELHI: India’s third-largest drugmaker, Lupin, on Tuesday announced that it has agreed to buy a portfolio of 21 generic brands from Osaka-based Shionogi & Co Ltd for about ₹1,000 crore to strengthen its presence in the Japan, the world’s second largest pharmaceutical market.
The acquisition will be effective from December 1, and is subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Lupin said the 21 products it is acquiring from Shionogi had sales of $90 million collectively in the year ended March 31, 2016, and covers therapeutic areas, including central nervous system (CNS), oncology, cardiovascular and anti-infectives, among others.
